Turkish Economy Records 2.3 Percent Growth in the Second Quarter
According to official data released, gross domestic product reached 19 trillion 869 billion 747 million liras at current prices.
The Turkish economy grew by 2.3 percent in the second quarter of 2026 compared to the same period of the previous year, while Gross Domestic Product reached 19 trillion 869 billion 747 million liras at current prices.
Growth Rate and GDP Values
According to the data for the April-June period of 2026 announced by the Turkish Statistical Institute, gross domestic product increased by 2.3 percent as a chained volume index. Calculated by the production method, GDP increased by 36 percent at current prices to 19 trillion 869 billion 747 million liras. In the same period, the dollar value of GDP amounted to 438 billion 347 million.
Sectoral Developments and Highlights
When the activities forming the GDP are examined, the highest increase was observed in the agriculture, forestry and fishing sector with 13.3 percent. Information and communication activities increased by 8.6 percent, and public administration, education, human health and social work activities recorded an increase of 4 percent. The construction sector, on the other hand, experienced a decrease of 1.9 percent in this period.
Expenditure and Foreign Trade Items
Final consumption expenditures of resident households showed an increase of 3.5 percent in the second quarter of the year. The government's final consumption expenditures decreased by 1.8 percent, while gross fixed capital formation increased by 0.6 percent. Exports of goods and services decreased by 3.4 percent and imports by 6.4 percent.
Labor Force Payments and Income Distribution
Labor force payments increased by 36.7 percent in the second quarter of 2026 compared to the same period of the previous year. Net operating surplus and mixed income rose by 38.7 percent, while the share of labor force payments in Gross Value Added was realized as 38.1 percent.
