Turkish Economy Records 2.3 Percent Growth in the Second Quarter of the Year
According to Turkish Statistical Institute data, the Turkish economy grew by 2.3 percent year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026, while the uninterrupted growth streak reached 24 quarters.
According to the Gross Domestic Product results for the April-June period of 2026 announced by the Turkish Statistical Institute, the Turkish economy grew by 2.3 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.
Growth Process and General Data
With the Turkish economy growing by 2.3 percent in the second quarter of 2026 compared to the same period of the previous year, the economy's uninterrupted growth streak was carried into its 24th quarter.
According to the April-June Gross Domestic Product results announced by the Turkish Statistical Institute, this rate, calculated via the chained volume index, demonstrated economic activity.
Sectoral Developments and the State of Agriculture
When examining the activities forming the GDP, the highest growth rate in the second quarter of the year was recorded in the agriculture, forestry, and fishing sector with an increase of 13.3 percent.
Information and communication activities grew by 8.6 percent, while public administration, education, human health, and social work activities showed an increase of 4.0 percent.
Industry and Other Sectoral Rates
Growth of 2.4 percent occurred in the industrial sector, while an increase of 2.1 percent was recorded in financial and insurance as well as real estate activities.
While professional, administrative, and support services grew by 2 percent, the trade, transportation, accommodation, and food services sector experienced a limited increase of 0.5 percent.
Contracting in the Construction Sector
Contrary to other sectors that recorded growth in the second quarter of the year, construction was the only major sector that contracted, and the value added in this field decreased by 1.9 percent.
Gross Domestic Product Figures
Gross Domestic Product calculated by the production method increased by 36 percent at current prices compared to the same quarter of the previous year, reaching 19 trillion 869 billion 747 million liras.
According to the disclosed data, the second quarter value of GDP materialized at the level of 438 billion 347 million dollars in current prices in dollar terms.
Consumption and Foreign Trade Items
Resident households' final consumption expenditures increased by 3.5 percent in the second quarter of the year, while government final consumption expenditures fell by 1.8 percent.
In the same period, gross fixed capital formation rose by 0.6 percent, exports of goods and services recorded a 3.4 percent increase, and imports decreased by 6.4 percent.
Labor Compensation and Distribution
Labor compensation showed an increase of 36.7 percent in the second quarter compared to the same period of the previous year, while net operating surplus and mixed income rose by 38.7 percent.
While the share of labor compensation in Gross Value Added at current prices declined from 38.3 percent to 38.1 percent, the share of net operating surplus was 41.6 percent.
