German automotive giant Volkswagen Group's global vehicle deliveries in the third quarter of the year decreased by 14.3 percent compared to the same period last year, falling to 1,885,300.

Third Quarter Global Sales Data

Headquartered in Wolfsburg and encompassing brands such as Audi, Skoda, SEAT, and Porsche, the Volkswagen Group has shared its global vehicle delivery data for the third quarter of the year.

In the third quarter covering the July-September period, the group's total global vehicle deliveries fell by 14.3 percent compared to the same period last year, dropping to 1,885,300 units.

Brand-Based Performance Distribution

During this period, the sales of the group's core brand, Volkswagen passenger cars, decreased by 19.3 percent to 946,600 units.

Meanwhile, total deliveries for the core brand group, which includes Volkswagen passenger cars, Skoda, SEAT/CUPRA, and Volkswagen commercial vehicles, realized a 14 percent loss at 1,430,900.

Intense Competitive Pressure in the Chinese Market

Intense price competition with local electric vehicle suppliers in China, the company's largest market, and a contraction in the domestic market were the main reasons for the weak trend.

In the third quarter, the group's vehicle deliveries in China showed a major drop of 38.5 percent, falling to 405,800.

Change in All-Electric Vehicle Sales

The group's global all-electric vehicle sales also lost momentum in the third quarter of the year, decreasing by 4.7 percent compared to the same period last year to 240,200 units.

Especially in the US market, under the pressure of the termination of incentive programs and customs tariffs, electric vehicle sales plummeted by 86.4 percent down to 5,100 units.

January-September Period Total Results

In the January-September period of the year, the Volkswagen Group's total global deliveries declined by 9 percent compared to the same period last year, reaching 6,011,000.

With this result, the company delivered approximately 600,000 fewer vehicles compared to last year, while main brand passenger car sales were recorded down by 13.7 percent at 3,014,000.

Strengthening Electric Trend in the European Market

In contrast to the global decline, the group's electric vehicle orders in the European market gained strong momentum, with these deliveries increasing by 19.6 percent in the third quarter.

While the newly launched affordable electric city car family received nearly 150,000 orders in a short time, Martin Sander drew attention to the challenges in the Chinese market and the new models in Europe.
