Anthropic is merging the memory systems used between Claude chat and Claude Cowork, allowing the AI to share information and remember it across both experiences.
Unification of Memory Systems
According to an announcement by Anthropic, the memory systems used between Claude chat and Claude Cowork are now being unified.
Thanks to this update, Claude retains what it learns in one area within the other, eliminating the need for users to repeatedly explain things.
Seamless Assistant Experience
The new update allows users to transition smoothly from the research phase to the execution phase.
Previously, ideas developed during a chat had to start from scratch when transferred to the Cowork environment, but now Claude feels like a single unified assistant.
Faster Information Sharing
Instead of generating a summary when a chat ends, Claude begins instantly adding topics to its memory while the chat is ongoing.
This approach makes switching back and forth between chat and Cowork easier, as new memories are updated and shared much faster.
User Control and Privacy
Users can read, edit, or completely delete the information stored in Claude's memory as they wish.
By default, the system does not store sensitive information such as health data, race, and political views, but users can optionally enable this feature.
Accessibility and Plans
The memory feature is enabled by default on Free, Pro, and Max plans across web, desktop, and mobile platforms.
To benefit from this new experience on mobile devices, iOS and Android users need to update their apps to the latest version.
