Google's AI note-taking app offers the ability to interact with books

Google's AI-powered note-taking app, Gemini Notebook, has gained a new feature that allows users to import books purchased from Google Play Books into the system, enabling them to ask questions about the content and generate various AI-driven content.

Expert Sources Feature

The newly introduced Expert Sources feature allows titles on Google Play Books to be imported directly into Gemini Notebook.

Thanks to this integration, users can ask questions about the materials, and generate plans, infographics, and AI podcasts.

Application Examples

Google Labs editorial director Steven Johnson demonstrated how a cookbook could be created using information from Michael Pollan's book Food Rules.

In another example, information from Kim Scott's book Radical Candor was used to answer how to handle a difficult conversation with an employee.

Supported Books

In the initial phase, more than 100,000 books from publishers such as Penguin Random House, Macmillan Publishers, and O'Reilly Media support this feature.

Additionally, Google has partnered with 15 authors to create Featured Notebooks where authors add exclusive content.

Security and Access

Google has developed protections to prevent unpurchased book content from being accessed by other users.

A user who has not purchased the book can see the source in a shared notebook, but cannot access the full text.
