Conditions Are Being Prepared for Opening the Strait
Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Mohsen Rezaei stated that a list was prepared after mediators asked the Tehran administration to outline its conditions. The statement emphasized that ending the regional war is among these conditions.
Maritime Corridor Agreement with Oman
Mohsen Rezaei stated that Iran has reached an agreement with Oman regarding a shipping corridor through the strait. It was noted that part of this route will pass through Omani waters and the other part through Iranian waters.
Demands Directed at the US and Washington Administration
It was stated that if the U.S. meets the conditions, ships could use a designated central channel. Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps noted that they will not allow the strait to be opened unless the Washington administration lifts the blockade on Iranian ports, pays reparations, and removes sanctions.
Global Energy Shipments and Previous Developments
Until the war began in February, the strait carried roughly a fifth of global oil and liquefied natural gas shipments. Marine traffic through the waterway has been largely halted since the start of the war.
