Phone-Free Face-to-Face Gatherings Begin with the Hudur Community in Baghdad
A Baghdad-based initiative aiming to strengthen face-to-face communication by moving away from the pressure of smartphones on social life brings together different generations.
Emerging in Baghdad, the Hudur Community organizes gatherings where participants put their phones aside to reduce the pressure of smartphones on social life and strengthen face-to-face communication.
The Emergence of the Initiative
With smartphones entering every aspect of life, from friendly chats to family gatherings, a new initiative called the Hudur Community was founded in Baghdad.
The Founding Story
The foundations of the initiative are based on a personal experience lived by its founder, Hasan al-Ubeidi, and it has evolved over time into a structure that brings together people of different ages.
How the Events Work
Participants in the gatherings leave their phones aside for three hours, taking part in conversations away from social media, notifications, and messaging apps.
From Social Media to Real Life
Following a simple post published on Facebook, the project opened a website and an Instagram account, transforming into regular face-to-face gatherings.
Inclusive and Safe Environment
It is stated that the gatherings are kept away from topics of politics and religion, and the age range of participants extends from nineteen-year-old youths to individuals over sixty years old.
