Breast Cancer Cases in Turkey and the Importance of Early Diagnosis
While data from the Ministry of Health indicates that thousands of women are diagnosed with breast cancer every year in our country, experts state that regular check-ups are of vital importance for this disease, which can also be seen in younger age groups.
Breast cancer, which is among the most common ailments among women worldwide, continues to come to the agenda more frequently at younger ages in recent years. According to data shared by the Ministry of Health, approximately 27,000 women are diagnosed with this condition every year in Turkey.
The Impact of Early Diagnosis on Treatment
It is stated that the main goal in breast cancer is to diagnose the disease at an early stage before it shows any symptoms and to begin the treatment process.
General Surgery Specialist Prof. Dr. Metin Çakmakçı emphasizes that regular check-ups should not be neglected so that early diagnosis and treatment chances are not hindered.
Symptoms of the Disease
Among the seven major symptoms of breast cancer are newly emerging lumps in the breast, changes in shape or size, and skin depressions and thickenings.
In addition, inversions of the nipple, spontaneous discharges, redness, rashes, and swellings around the armpit and collarbone are also among the symptoms.
Check-up Recommendations by Age Group
Experts recommend that women under the age of forty who are in the risk group undergo doctor examinations with the help of ultrasonography and MRI.
After the age of forty, having regular ultrasonography and mammography every year is stated to significantly increase the chance of early diagnosis.
