The Ministry of Health has announced the symptoms, diagnostic criteria, and treatment methods for gaming disorder, which is particularly seen in children and young people.

Symptoms of Gaming Disorder

An individual's excessive preoccupation with internet games and anticipation of playing the next game are among the important indicators.

Experiencing restlessness, anxiety, and sadness when kept away from the internet is also cited among the symptoms.

Criteria at the Addiction Level

Gaming disorder is characterized by the inability to control computer or internet games for at least 12 months.

It is a condition where gaming replaces daily life activities and playing games continues despite negative consequences.

Clinical Evaluation Process

In order for a diagnosis to be made, clinical evaluations must be performed by child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrists.

When necessary, neuropsychological tests should be applied and the diagnostic process should be supported with information obtained from the family.

Applied Treatment Methods

During treatment, the patient is enabled to organize their thoughts and identify the triggers that prompt them to play games.

While problem-oriented psycho-education is provided, cognitive and behavioral therapy techniques such as deleting games from devices are utilized.

Things to Consider After Treatment

After treatment, reorganizing relationships with gaming friends is of great importance.

A supportive environment that will reduce the risk of relapse must be created by increasing sports, art, and social activities.
