Loss of Life and Event Cancellations in Kyrenia-Mersin Passenger Ship Disaster

At least 8 people lost their lives and search and rescue operations are ongoing after a ship carrying 267 passengers, traveling from Kyrenia in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus to Mersin, capsized and sank.

A ship with a total of 267 passengers on board, which set sail from the city of Kyrenia in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus toward Mersin, capsized and sank. As a result of this maritime accident, at least 8 people lost their lives.

Search and Rescue Operations Continue

Search and rescue operations initiated to find the passengers lost at sea following the accident are continuing uninterrupted in the region. Teams are exerting intense efforts to reach the survivors.

MSB Cancelled Band Performances

Due to the major disaster, some band performances planned within the scope of the August 30 Victory Day and Turkish Armed Forces Day were cancelled. The Ministry of National Defense published a message of condolence for those who lost their lives in the accident.

Concerts and Celebrations Postponed

In addition to the concerts by the band units affiliated with the Ministry of National Defense, the Emre Altuğ concert planned to be held by the Kadıköy Municipality at Kalamış Park in Istanbul was also among the events cancelled due to the ship accident.
