Patient in Istanbul Found to Have Visited Hospital 337 Times in One Year Due to Health Anxiety

Istanbul Provincial Director of Health Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdullah Emre Güner made statements regarding patients who frequently apply to hospitals due to health issues and anxieties. Güner reported that a patient who could not manage conditions such as anxiety and shortness of breath went to the hospital 337 times in one year.

High Examination Rate in the Capital of Health

Istanbul Provincial Director of Health Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdullah Emre Güner stated that Istanbul is the health capital of the world and expressed that a total of 148 million examinations were carried out in the first 8 months of the year.

Hundreds of Visits Due to Anxiety

Drawing attention to hospital visits made unnecessarily in the city, Güner noted that a COPD patient applied to the hospital 337 times in a year due to the inability to manage shortness of breath and anxiety. It was stated that another citizen, who went to Okmeydanı Training and Research Hospital 316 times in a year, experienced a fear of hypertension and that their visits were reduced after being persuaded by experts.

The Importance of Primary Healthcare Services

Emphasizing that citizens should first apply to family physicians due to fears and worries, Güner pointed out the importance of using primary, secondary, and tertiary healthcare services effectively.
