Recommendations for Protecting Health and Improving Quality of Life During Menopause
Physical and mental health issues experienced by women during menopause in Vietnam are discussed, along with precautions that must be taken to protect against the risk of osteoporosis and maintain quality of life.
The Ministry of Health of Vietnam and experts draw attention to the physical and mental health issues experienced by women during menopause, stating that holistic measures must be taken to protect against the risk of osteoporosis and preserve quality of life.
Physical and Mental Effects of Menopause
Hot flashes and excessive sweating are among the symptoms frequently experienced by women during menopause. These effects are not limited to these symptoms alone, but can also cause an increased risk of osteoporosis and negatively impact overall quality of life.
Female Population and Demographics in Vietnam
According to information shared by Dinh Anh Tuan, Director of the Department of Maternal and Child Health under the Ministry of Health of Vietnam, there are approximately 13 million women aged 45 and older in the country, accounting for 25 percent of the total female population. It is estimated that nearly 20 million women are either approaching or currently going through menopause.
Hormonal Changes and Symptoms
According to experts, menopause is defined as a normal physiological phenomenon that leads to a decrease in ovarian activity and falling estrogen levels. Between 60 and 80 percent of women experience this period with problems such as hot flashes, anxiety, irritability, and sleep disorders.
Osteoporosis and Long-Term Health Risks
Estrogen deficiency contributes to a decrease in bone density, increasing the risk of osteoporosis and fractures. In the year and a half before and after menopause, bone density can decrease by approximately 2.5 percent per year.
Holistic Health Management and Lifestyle
Experts emphasize that managing menopausal health requires a holistic approach that combines lifestyle adjustments, psychological support, and medical interventions when necessary. A balanced diet, regular exercise, and adequate sleep are of great importance.
Importance of Family Support and Medical Help
In addition to medical care, family support plays a critical role. When relatives listen and share responsibilities, it prevents women from silently enduring physical discomforts and enables them to proactively seek medical help.
