In an operation carried out by Istanbul Police Department teams against the armed terrorist organizations Al-Qaeda and ISIS, 14 suspects identified as conducting propaganda on social media platforms were captured.
Background of the Operation
A new effort was conducted against the Al-Qaeda and ISIS terrorist organizations in a joint operation by the Istanbul Police Department's Counter-Terrorism and Intelligence Branch Offices. During the investigations, individuals evaluated as potentially connected to persons linked to conflict zones were placed under scrutiny.
Social Media Posts Tracked
Teams examined the social media accounts of suspects during their work aimed at preventing potential preparations for actions against the country. It was determined that posts praising and supporting the terrorist organizations in question were made through these accounts.
14 Suspects Captured
In simultaneous operations organized in line with the gathered evidence, a total of 14 suspects were captured and detained. Numerous digital materials were seized during searches conducted at the addresses.
The detained suspects were transferred to the Istanbul Counter-Terrorism Branch for the execution of interrogation and legal procedures at the police station. The multifaceted investigation process regarding the incident continues.
