The details of the new regulation, which stipulates that social network providers cannot provide services to children under the age of 15, have been clarified. Within the scope of the implementation, age verification will be carried out via e-Devlet.

Age Verification Process and e-Devlet

Social network providers will be required to check the age status of new users during the account creation phase using an age verification token provided via e-Devlet.

As a result of the checks, requests to open accounts on platforms by children determined to be under 15 years of age will strictly not be approved.

Differentiated Services for Children Over 15

For children who have reached the age of 15 but are not yet adults, differentiated service principles will be implemented.

In child accounts within this scope, live broadcasting and the display of personalized advertisements will not be permitted under any circumstances.

Privacy and Security Measures

According to the regulation, children will only be able to receive messages from accounts they follow on the platform, and messages from external sources will be restricted.

Furthermore, other users will not be able to view the follower and following lists of these child accounts in any way.

Parental Control Tools and Process

With the regulation, a legal obligation has also been imposed on social network providers to offer parental control tools.

In this way, parents will be able to control their children's account settings, limit daily usage times, and approve paid transactions.

Effective Date and Existing Accounts

The newly prepared regulation will officially enter into force on November 1st, and the process will be binding for all social networks.

For existing accounts, age verification procedures will be required to be completed by March 31, 2027, and accounts found to be held by individuals under 15 will be closed.
