Mağusa Türk Gücü Reacts to Barcelona's Cancellation of Football Camp
Following the obstruction of the Barcelona Academy youth camp in Nicosia, MTG issued a statement emphasizing that sports are above politics and criticizing the imposed isolations.
Mağusa Türk Gücü (MTG) strongly reacted to the cancellation of the football camp planned by the Barcelona Academy to be held in Nicosia in September, as a result of political pressure from the Greek Cypriot Administration and ELAM.
The Cancellation Process of the Camp
The Barcelona Academy had planned to organize a youth football camp in September at the Near East University facilities in Nicosia. However, the phrase "Lefkosa, Northern Cyprus" used in the announcement of the organization caused a crisis.
Following this development, the Greek Cypriot Administration, ELAM, and the Cyprus Football Association made initiatives before UEFA and the Spanish Football Federation to have the camp blocked. As a result of the pressure, the camp was removed from the schedule.
Mağusa Türk Gücü's Reaction
Reacting to this development, Mağusa Türk Gücü stated that the cancellation of a sporting organization for youth due to political pressures is unacceptable.
In the statement made by the club, attention was drawn to the unifying power of sports, emphasizing that children and youth should not be used as tools for diplomatic calculations and that the imposed isolations are unjust.
