A new public opinion poll conducted by the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research revealed that 64 percent of the U.S. population thinks artificial intelligence is developing too quickly. The research shows that there is a broad consensus of concern regarding human control and the protection of the workforce across the bases of both political parties.

Poll Results and Development Speed

According to a new public opinion poll, a large majority of U.S. adults, 64 percent, find the pace of artificial intelligence development to be excessive. While 27 percent of participants consider this development normal, only 8 percent state that the process is moving too slowly.

These emerging figures clearly lay bare the unease and question marks felt across broad segments of society in the face of the technology's momentum.

Government Policies and Priorities

Approximately 80 percent of U.S. adults argue that keeping artificial intelligence under human control and protecting the nation's workforce are extremely important for the federal government.

Citizens demand that the government pursue policies that safeguard workers and human oversight while continuing technological progress.

Political Approaches and Trust

While President Trump opposes slowing down artificial intelligence development out of concern that China might gain an advantage in this field, 67 percent of those surveyed disapprove of his performance on this issue.

On the other hand, about 40 percent of Americans state that they trust neither the Democratic Party nor the Republican Party when it comes to artificial intelligence policies.
