Venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz is launching a new San Francisco-based academy program partnered with major technology companies.

Purpose and Structure of the Program

Venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz is creating a new academy to help young people found or join Silicon Valley startups. Dubbed the Horowitz Andreessen Academy, the initiative is described as an elite school, though it does not grant any degrees or accreditation.

Partnership with Major Companies

The new academy is launching with 10 partners, including Anduril, Anthropic, Coinbase, Google, Meta, Nvidia, OpenAI, Palantir, Replit, and Stripe. An initial funding of $42 million was secured for the project, led by a16z.

Opportunities Provided to Students

Students wishing to participate in the one-year program are required to move to San Francisco and arrange their own housing. Participants will receive over $50,000 in compute credits from a16z, along with a $5,000 travel and research budget.

A System Different from Traditional Education

According to the academy announcement, students will not encounter traditional grades, exams, or homework. Instead, they will attend short classes led by tech figures such as OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and spend the rest of their time working at technology companies.

Silicon Valley and Educational Perspective

This initiative stands out as the latest link in Silicon Valley billionaires' efforts to reform the education system by founding their own schools. The founders of a16z are historically known for their critical approaches to traditional universities and academia.

Application and Participation Conditions

The Horowitz Andreessen Academy will be tuition-free for its first one-year program in the autumn of 2027. Designed primarily for recent high school graduates, only 50 students will be accepted into this educational program.
