Australia to Ban AI-Generated Songs from Music Charts
While music entirely created by AI will be blocked from entering the charts in Australia, human-created songs that utilize AI support will be excluded from the ban.
The Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) has decided to ban songs created entirely using artificial intelligence from entering the official music charts starting August 28.
Scope of the New Regulation
According to a report by ABC News, the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) is introducing a new regulation regarding the use of artificial intelligence in music charts. In line with the decision, songs entirely generated by AI will not be allowed on the ARIA charts starting August 28.
Songs that are largely produced by human effort but utilize AI support during the recording phase will not be affected by this ban. Such works, which do not raise concerns about manipulating the charts, will continue to be allowed to enter the charts.
Reason for the Decision and Call to the Industry
Annabelle Herd, one of ARIA's executives, stated that while artists utilize AI tools, a song being entirely produced by this technology presents a different situation. Herd expressed that this step establishes clearer rules for musicians in Australia.
This decision comes after a song entirely generated by AI became the most played track on Australian radio and rose to number four on two different ARIA charts in July. Herd also called on other music organizations to support human artistry.
