During his second official visit to Washington, Chinese President Xi Jinping stated that the U.S. and China share a joint responsibility to ensure that artificial intelligence development remains under human control.

Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized during his remarks at the White House in Washington that both countries possess the capacity and responsibility to manage artificial intelligence with good intentions.

The statement came shortly after China's commerce ministry confirmed that senior trade negotiators had held their first discussions with the U.S. in the field of artificial intelligence.

Leaders' Talks and Expectations

U.S. President Donald Trump had previously indicated in a social media post that superintelligence and artificial intelligence would be a major topic of discussion between the two leaders.

Following his contacts with Xi, Trump stated that they had established a great friendship with the Chinese leader based on mutual respect.

Messages of Competition and Cooperation

Xi Jinping expressed that although the U.S. and China have different structures, their interests are deeply intertwined and they can build mutual trust.

Stating that competition between the two countries should be healthy and kept within certain boundaries, the Chinese leader noted he does not want the competition to turn into a zero-sum wrestling match.

U.S. President Trump noted that the two countries will continue to work together to meet in a better future.

Meanwhile, Xi Jinping announced that he has invited 100,000 young Americans to China over the next five years under student exchange programs.
