Council of Higher Education Announces University Hospitals' Achievements in Healthcare
CoHE President Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar shared with the public the significant healthcare successes achieved by university hospitals across Turkey in the fields of treatment, research, and technology.
Council of Higher Education President Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar stated that university hospitals successfully carry out the functions of treatment, research, technology, and human resource development simultaneously, sharing many important healthcare achievements such as robotic surgery, organ transplantation, fetal surgery, and artificial intelligence-supported treatments.
The Role of University Hospitals
Council of Higher Education President Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar stated that university hospitals successfully carry out the functions of treatment, research, technology, and human resource development together.
Remote 5G Surgery
A successful remote surgery was performed between Istanbul University Faculty of Medicine and Muş State Hospital using 5G infrastructure and a domestically produced surgical robot.
Fetal Surgery and Organ Transplantation
At Hacettepe University, a congenital opening in the spinal cord of a twenty-six-week-old baby was repaired in utero using a closed method.
At the Liver Transplantation Institute of Inönü University Turgut Özal Medical Center, the world's first simultaneous eight-way crossed liver transplantation was performed.
Innovative Treatment Centers
In addition to the world's first cadaveric uterus transplantation at Akdeniz University Hospital, double-arm and face transplants were performed, and the CAR-T Cellular Therapies Production Center was put into service.
Technology and Heart Transplantation
Clinical applications were successfully implemented at Gaziantep University Şahinbey Research and Application Hospital using the domestic heart-lung machine developed by ASELSAN.
A total of three hundred and eight heart transplants were performed in twenty-eight years at the Ege University Faculty of Medicine Department of Cardiovascular Surgery.
