Digital Transformation Initiative for Ethnic Minority Regions in Lam Dong Province
A new plan is being implemented to increase access to information and strengthen digital infrastructure in disadvantaged areas inhabited by ethnic minorities.
Lam Dong province has issued a comprehensive plan to expand digital transformation and apply science and technology in ethnic minority regions within the framework of the Ethnic Affairs Strategy.
Digital Transformation Plan and Objectives
Published by the Department of Science and Technology in alignment with the strategy of the Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee, the plan aims to bridge the gap in access to information. This step is intended to narrow the development disparity in disadvantaged areas and improve the lives of the people.
Current Infrastructure and Connectivity Rates
Mobile broadband network coverage has reached 100 percent of all communes, wards, and special zones in the province. The smartphone ownership rate has reached 96.5 percent, and the proportion of households using fixed fiber-optic internet has reached 96.24 percent.
Education and Digital Literacy Efforts
Out of approximately 2,700 groups across the province, 2,200 operate in mountainous and ethnic minority regions. As of the end of July 2026, 4,464 people had acquired digital skills thanks to specialized courses.
Infrastructure Challenges and Shortcomings
Despite the achievements, 5G coverage in ethnic minority regions remained at 40.32 percent as of the end of June, which is below the provincial average. Additionally, some communes and villages experience issues with fixed internet or stable mobile access.
Future Targets and Communication Activities
The Lam Dong Department of Science and Technology issued a special plan and allocated responsibilities. Officials emphasized that seamless communication will be ensured in 100 percent of ethnic and mountainous regions by the end of 2026 and the beginning of 2027.
