Discussion on Elevating Vietnamese Scientific Journals to International Standards
Experts gathered at the University of Transport Technology discussed strategies for Vietnamese scientific journals to reach international standards.
At a national scientific conference held at the University of Transport Technology, adapting Vietnamese journals to Scopus and Web of Science criteria and improving their quality were discussed.
National Scientific Conference Held
Hosted by the University of Transport Technology and in collaboration with various institutions, a national scientific conference addressing Scopus and Web of Science standards was held. Approximately 300 delegates from central agencies, higher education institutions, and research institutes participated in the workshop.
Emphasis on Academic Bridges and Quality
Speaking at the opening of the conference, Associate Professor Dr. Vu Trong Lam emphasized that scientific journals are vital bridges where knowledge is evaluated and verified. He stated that while it is necessary for Vietnamese journals to be featured in international databases, the primary goal must be true academic prestige.
Current Situation and Statistics
According to data from the Ministry of Science and Technology, there are approximately 506 scientific journals belonging to 367 publishing organizations in the system. Of these journals, 267 use DOIs, 231 publish online, and 16 are indexed in Scopus or Web of Science.
Successful Case Studies
Highlighting success at the conference, the Journal of Science and Transport Technology of the University of Transport Technology was accepted by Scopus in a short period. Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Hoang Long stated that this success was made possible by standardizing journals right from the beginning.
