Dron Kalkan, Developed Against Fiber Optic-Controlled Drones, is Being Introduced
Developed by four Turkish companies and one university under the leadership of Turaç, the fiber optic-controlled drone destruction system Dron Kalkan will be exhibited in Istanbul.
Developed as a low-cost physical destruction solution against fiber optic-controlled and kamikaze drones that have become widespread in the Russia-Ukraine war, Dron Kalkan will make its debut at the 21st MÜSİAD EXPO, opening its doors at the Istanbul Expo Center on September 23-26.
New Solution Against Evolving Drone Threats
The widespread use of FPV and kamikaze drones in the Russia-Ukraine war has increased the need for physical destruction solutions against low-cost aerial threats.
The fact that drones controlled by fiber optic cables are unaffected by electronic jamming has brought rifle-based systems back to the forefront in air defense architecture.
To Be Exhibited for the First Time at MÜSİAD EXPO
The Dron Kalkan project, developed under the leadership of ammunition manufacturer Turaç with the contributions of four Turkish companies and a university, is being introduced to the public.
The system will be exhibited for the first time at the 21st MÜSİAD EXPO fair to be held at the Istanbul Expo Center on September 23-26.
Hardware and Technical Specifications of the System
Derya Arms' 12-gauge semi-automatic rifles operate on the pan-tilt motion-capable turret located in Dron Kalkan.
Lasersan's electro-optic sensor package and acoustic detectors are also situated on the same turret, ensuring uninterrupted target tracking.
Artificial Intelligence and Passive Sensor Technology
Target detection, classification, and tracking are carried out through artificial intelligence algorithms within the scope of studies conducted with ITU ARC.
The passive operation of both detectors allows the system to perform its mission without leaving a trace and keeps power consumption low.
Destruction Capability Within Critical Seconds
The system neutralizes the target it scans and tracks at a distance of 150 meters thanks to a metal cloud created by simultaneous firing.
Turaç General Manager Fatih Altunbaş stated that the system responds within a critical timeframe of 6 seconds against drones approaching at speeds of up to 180 kilometers per hour.
Broad Integration and Export Targets
Thanks to its lightweight and compact design, the system can be easily integrated into land and naval vehicles, fixed facilities, and unmanned ground vehicles.
Designed with an export target from day one, the system is planned to be ready for duty and mass production before the end of the year.
