Establishment of the Superintelligence Force
U.S. President Trump announced on Sunday that Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton is the new White House artificial intelligence czar.
Trump stated that Clayton will lead the Superintelligence Force, which was established to ensure the U.S. maintains its leadership in this field.
Scope of Duties and Board Members
The new unit will coordinate the federal government's relationships with consumers, public interest groups, religious organizations, and critical infrastructure providers.
It was also announced that the Superintelligence Force will include figures such as Andrew Ferguson, Scott Kupor, and Emil Michael.
Jay Clayton's Previous Roles
Before being confirmed to head national intelligence this year, Jay Clayton served as the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York and as SEC chairman.
In an interview last month, he described superintelligence as a national security issue and opposed calls to pause the development of the technology.
Developments in Artificial Intelligence Policies
The Trump administration is seeking to reframe artificial intelligence concerns in contrast to tech leaders' risk warnings.
Meeting with tech executives at the White House on Tuesday, Trump stated that company leaders signed a voluntary agreement involving internal and external reviews.
