Following privacy and surveillance criticism directed at its smart glasses with cameras, Meta is preparing to launch a new smart glass model named Luna that does not contain an integrated camera.
Privacy Concerns and the New Model
Although Meta's smart glasses with cameras have achieved commercial success in the market, they were viewed by some consumers as devices that infringe upon privacy.
After becoming the target of criticism labeling them as "perv glasses," the company began working on a new model that does not house integrated spying equipment.
Key Features of the Luna Model
The new smart glass model, named Luna, allows users to communicate with the company's artificial intelligence systems despite the lack of an onboard camera.
The device features six integrated microphones to interact with the AI chatbot and consumer agent Muse.
Additionally, a button located on the side of the glasses is designed to activate the AI system the moment it is pressed.
Launch Date and Industry Status
It is stated that the new model could be unveiled to the public during Meta Connect, the annual developer event held in Menlo Park.
Although the smart glasses market has experienced growth in recent years, issues such as cost, usability, and privacy continue to increase uncertainties in the sector.
According to financial reports, Reality Labs, the unit developing this glasses series, continues to report massive financial losses.
