Number of Generative Artificial Intelligence Users in China Exceeds 700 Million
The number of people using generative artificial intelligence technologies in China has increased rapidly in a short period, reaching more than half of the country's population.
According to data released by the China Internet Network Information Center, the number of generative artificial intelligence users in the country surpassed the 700 million threshold as of June 2026, bringing the penetration rate to over 50 percent.
Rapid Rise in User Numbers
According to the report published by the China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC), the number of users, which stood at 602 million at the end of 2025, recorded an increase of approximately 100 million in a short span of just six months.
Areas of Heaviest Usage
When examining digital data across the country, it was clearly observed that artificial intelligence technologies were most intensively preferred in the question-and-answer and chat tools category with a rate of 76 percent.
National Artificial Intelligence Super Cluster
The published report drew attention to the fact that the first national artificial intelligence super cluster, consisting of 100,000 graphics processing units within China's borders, also actively started operations during this period.
