Özdemir Bayraktar Space Observatory Opens in Bolvadin
Established by converting a disused former water tank, the observatory will open its doors on the anniversary of the district's liberation.
The Özdemir Bayraktar Space Observatory, located within Horan Park in Bolvadin, Afyonkarahisar, will enter service with a ceremony to be held on September 24, 2026, marking the 105th anniversary of Bolvadin's liberation.
Opening Date and Location
The opening of the center, which will operate in the fields of science, technology, and astronomy, will take place on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at 12:00 PM.
It was announced that all citizens are invited to the opening ceremony of the facility, which was brought to life by the Bolvadin Municipality within Horan Park.
From Old Tank to Science Center
The former elevated water tank, which had remained unused and idle for many years, was transformed under a specially prepared project and gained as a science and technology center.
Bearing the name of the late Özdemir Bayraktar, the facility received this title through a municipal council decision and has been put into the service of the youth.
Education for Youth and Children
The Özdemir Bayraktar Space Observatory is planned to feature sections geared towards science and technology fields, primarily space and astronomy.
The center aims to host educational, activity, and scientific programs specifically targeting children and young people.
Sky Observations and Studies
In addition to astronomy observations to be carried out at the observatory, various studies will be conducted to enable students to closely examine the sky and the universe.
In this center, which aims to bring young people together with scientific studies, it is anticipated that a contribution will be made to the district's technological infrastructure.
