The 2030 National Smart Cities Strategy and Action Plan Officially Entered into Force
The new roadmap prepared by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change aims to accelerate digital transformation in urban services.
Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum announced that the 5-year 2030 National Smart Cities Strategy and Action Plan, which will transform the appearance of cities, has been published in the Official Gazette. In the new period, smart applications equipped with technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, and digital twins will be implemented.
Plan Published in the Official Gazette
The 2030 National Smart Cities Strategy and Action Plan, prepared by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, has been published in the Official Gazette. Within the scope of the plan, strategic objectives focusing on implementation, monitoring, and measurement have been established.
With the new regulation, it is aimed to prevent cities from turning into technology dumps and to prevent waste of resources.
Steps and Targets by Years
In line with the plan, smart city strategies will be prepared in all 81 provinces by the end of 2026, and special units will be established in municipalities. District municipalities will be included in the process in 2027, and at least 50 applications will be implemented in the field in 2028.
While Digital City Management Centers will be established in all provinces in 2029, an 80 percent domestic production requirement and the Smart Cities Law will come into force in 2030.
Disaster Management and Urban Transformation
The new roadmap will activate early warning and crisis management mechanisms in the fields of urban transformation, the climate crisis, and disaster management. TOKİ projects will be integrated with a smart neighborhoods approach.
New living spaces will run on green energy, and water and energy losses will be detected instantly via sensors.
Citizen-Centric Digital Solutions
It is aimed to minimize the time lost on roads with real-time traffic management systems. Waste collection vehicles will plot routes based on occupancy rates, and smart street lighting will provide savings.
International Cooperation and Domestic Production
Technology clusters will be established to export domestic solutions to the world, and this expertise will be transferred to countries in the immediate geography, primarily the Organization of Turkic States.
