It's not 'AI,' and it's not 'superintelligence.' So, what is it?

US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order requiring official correspondence to replace the term artificial intelligence with superintelligence or the abbreviation SI, on the grounds that the word artificial makes the technology appear fake.

New Term Directive from President Trump

In a late September speech at the United Nations, President Donald Trump stated that the word artificial in artificial intelligence makes the technology appear like a fake. Following these remarks, an executive order was signed instructing federal agencies to use the term superintelligence instead in their official communications.

While the Department of Justice informed its personnel to comply with this directive, other government departments are also expected to take similar steps.

Reactions from the Technology World

The technology sector also showed various reactions to this change, with Elon Musk announcing that his company SpaceXAI would be renamed SpaceXSI. On the other hand, OpenAI Chief Executive Officer Sam Altman stated that he believes the term superintelligence is a more accurate definition than the current branding.

Results of the Public Opinion Poll

According to a special public opinion poll, only a very small percentage of people in the US believe that this rebranding will have a positive impact on the country. The majority of citizens participating in the survey think that their acquaintances would feel uncomfortable calling this technology superintelligence.

Historical Background of the Term

The term artificial intelligence first appeared in 1955 in a proposal document prepared by a mathematics professor and other academics for a summer workshop at Dartmouth College.
