Vietnamese Researcher Advances PET Technologies for Early Cancer Detection
PhD candidate Vo Hong Phuc is leading projects on next-generation PET systems for cancer diagnosis and preclinical research at universities in Germany.
Vo Hong Phuc, a Vietnamese researcher and PhD candidate at the University of Lübeck, is working on next-generation PET technologies and specialized medical device projects aimed at the early detection of cancer.
Educational and Career Journey
Born in Vinh Long, Vo Hong Phuc studied Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at the Vietnamese-German University. Steering toward biomedical engineering during an internship, Phuc graduated with honors from a joint master's program between the University of Lübeck and the Lübeck University of Applied Sciences.
PhD Thesis and Next-Generation PET Projects
Continuing Phuc's doctoral studies at the Institute of Medical Technology of the University of Lübeck, the focus is on developing a dedicated breast PET/MRI insert that can be integrated with whole-body PET/MRI systems. This research is supported by the German Research Foundation.
Preclinical Research Projects
Phuc participated in the MERMAID project, which developed a specialized PET system for small aquatic animal models such as zebrafish. Additionally, participation included the ProVision project, which developed a cost-effective PET device to support prostate cancer diagnosis.
Academic Achievements and Awards
Having published three articles in Q1 scientific journals and presented at over 25 specialized conferences, Vo Hong Phuc was honored with the DAAD 2026 Prize for academic and research achievements.
