Workshop Held in Ho Chi Minh City for the Revised Food Safety Law Draft
At the meeting organized in cooperation with the National Assembly and the Ministry of Health, shortcomings in the food safety law and innovations brought by the draft bill were discussed.
A comprehensive workshop was held in Ho Chi Minh City to provide feedback on the revised Food Safety Law draft, in collaboration with the National Assembly Committee on Science, Technology and Environment and the Ministry of Health.
Purpose of the Workshop and Co-Chairs
The workshop, held on the afternoon of August 28 in Ho Chi Minh City, was co-chaired by Nguyen Phuong Tuan, Vice Chairman of the Committee on Science, Technology and Environment, and Do Xuan Tuyen, Deputy Minister of Health.
Limitations of the Current Law
Nguyen Phuong Tuan, Vice Chairman of the Committee on Science, Technology and Environment, stated that various limitations have emerged during the 15-year implementation process, such as fragmented management responsibilities and a lack of digital data infrastructure.
Five Key Content Groups to Focus On
The Committee Vice Chairman asked delegates to focus on risk-based management, digitalization, the national database, management of street food and mass catering, and a single point of contact.
Scope and Structure of the Bill
Chu Quoc Thinh, Director of the Vietnam Food Administration under the Ministry of Health, stated that the draft, consisting of 9 chapters and 75 articles, aims to manage the entire food value chain.
Proposals of Sector Representatives and Schedule of the Bill
While representatives of various associations made suggestions regarding pre-audits and administrative procedures, it was stated that the draft is scheduled to be approved at the second session in October.
