Cat Living in Wisconsin with 29 Toes Breaks Record

A Maine Coon cat named Erebus Anomaly, living in Wisconsin, has clung to life after critical pneumonia treatment, breaking a twenty-four-year world record and earning a spot in the Guinness World Records with a total of 29 toes.

Overcoming Pneumonia to Reach the Record

A cat named Erebus Anomaly, living in the town of Kaukauna, Wisconsin, successfully overcame a dangerous bout of pneumonia during kittenhood, leaving behind a major obstacle on the road to a world record.

Its owners, Kendra Vandenbloomer and Hunter Nett, stated that the cat faced a life-threatening situation due to fluid leakage in its respiratory tract and was treated while hooked up to an oxygen machine.

Genetic Trait and Toe Count

A genetic condition called polydactyly causes cats to be born with extra toes, and this condition is quite common among Maine Coon cats.

It was stated that Erebus's biological father was also born with six toes on each paw, totaling 24 toes, which influenced Erebus coming into the world with eight toes on one paw and seven toes on the others.

Past Records Left Behind

Erebus Anomaly surpassed the 28-toe record set in 2002 by a Canadian cat named Jake, becoming the holder of the new record-breaker title.

A cat named Toby in the state of Michigan had also shared the same record in March, while Erebus took over this record alone with 29 toes.

Guinness Certification and Future

X-ray films taken by its owners for a health check were also used as important evidence in the official application process made to the Guinness World Records.

Following the record certified by Guinness officials on May 13, its owners announced that they will continue to adopt Erebus, who lives at the breeding center named BlueNorthern Maine Coons.
