Death Toll Rises in Nepal Border Floods and Avalanche Disaster
As the death toll continues to rise due to avalanches and floods on the Nepal and Tibet border, search operations for thousands of missing people continue, and international aid is being delivered to the region.
The death toll from severe flash floods and landslides triggered by an ice-rock avalanche in the high Himalayas along the Nepal-Tibet border has reached 903, while thousands of people remain missing.
Scale of the Disaster and Losses
According to a statement by the disaster management authority, a large number of workers employed in the country's hydroelectric projects remain stranded. As part of ongoing search and rescue operations, 886 people have been rescued alive so far.
International Aid Efforts
The international community extended a helping hand following the disaster. The UAE administration sent 83 tons of emergency relief materials, while India dispatched over 68 tons of relief supplies via military aircraft and deployed forensic experts to the region.
China's Statements and New Warnings
The Chinese side rejected allegations that it ignored early warning signs, describing the reports as malicious. Meanwhile, new flood warnings were issued around the Bhotekoshi River due to rising water levels.
