FIDE Changes World Championship Dates Between Gukesh and Sindarov
The International Chess Federation FIDE has updated the schedule for the World Championship match to be held in Geneva and announced the new dates.
FIDE has quietly changed the schedule of the World Championship title match between grandmasters Gukesh D and Javokhir Sindarov, which will take place in Geneva.
New Schedule Details
Following the announcement of Geneva as the host city last month, it was previously stated that the match would take place from November 25 to December 15.
However, new regulations emerging from the FIDE Council meeting indicated that the schedule has been moved up to November 22 – December 13, with the first game to be played on November 24.
Arrival and Opening Ceremony
Players are expected to arrive in Geneva by November 20, while the opening ceremony is planned for November 22.
The first three games will be presented to chess enthusiasts on November 24, 25, and 26, respectively.
Match Format and Prize Pool
Consisting of fourteen classical games, the side that reaches 7.5 points will win the match, and if a tie persists, rapid and blitz tie-break matches will be played.
In the total prize pool of 2.5 million dollars, players will be awarded 200,000 dollars for each classical game victory, with the remaining amount distributed equally.
