Severe shortages of supplies, power outages, and staff shortages in hospitals located in Russian-controlled areas of Ukraine are plunging healthcare workers, who are trying to maintain medical services under extremely difficult conditions, and patients into a dead end.

Condition of Hospitals and Medical Equipment

It was reported that medical equipment and supplies at the district hospital in Hola Prystan, in the Kherson region, were redirected to military units, and even the furniture was taken away. With prolonged power outages and the departure of experienced staff, the infrastructure in hospitals has largely collapsed.

Transportation and Supply Difficulties

Patients seeking treatment by passing through mined terrain are facing greater obstacles in recent months due to increased blockades and material shortages. The United Nations Human Rights Monitoring Mission stated that the situation in the region is desperate and thousands of people are deprived of basic needs.

Operations Carried Out Under Difficult Conditions

Due to blood and transfusion supplies being sent to soldiers, critical surgical interventions such as C-sections have to be performed under very difficult conditions, and it was reported that some operations were carried out using a phone's flashlight without electricity and anesthesia.

Barriers to Accessing Healthcare Services

Passportization policies that prevent individuals without mandatory Russian health insurance from receiving medical services and curfews make it impossible for patients to reach healthcare institutions in emergency situations.
