International Monetary Fund Issues Three Major Risk Warnings for the Global Economy
IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva announced that rising energy costs, record public debt, and potential risks in artificial intelligence investments are threatening the economy.
International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva stated that the global economy is facing serious risks due to high energy prices, record levels of public debt, and uncertainties in artificial intelligence investments.
Pressures in Energy Markets
Evaluating the situation ahead of the meetings to be held in Bangkok, IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva emphasized that wars in the Middle East are negatively affecting energy supplies. Oil prices remaining around the 100-dollar level and increases in the costs of products such as diesel continue to sustain pressures on inflation.
Historical Levels in Public Debt
It was stated that another fundamental risk facing the global economy is the rapid increase in public debt. According to IMF data, public debt has reached its highest level since World War II and is projected to exceed 100 percent of global Gross Domestic Product before 2030.
Artificial Intelligence and Markets
It was stated that if artificial intelligence investments are managed correctly for the economy, they could provide an additional contribution of 0.5 percentage points annually. However, a warning was issued that if high corporate valuations are not supported by expected profit increases, a widespread market shock could occur.
