Iran Says It Will Reply to US Response on Hormuz Proposal Once Review Over

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei stated that the process of reviewing the U.S. response to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz is ongoing and that a response will be conveyed to the Washington administration via intermediary countries once the review is finalized.

Review Process and Intermediary Countries

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei stated at a press conference that evaluations regarding the response submitted by the U.S. are ongoing and that Washington will be replied to through intermediary states after this process is completed.

While it is noted that message exchanges between the parties continue through intermediary countries, countries such as Qatar and Pakistan are known to have undertaken a mediation role in this process.

Conditions and Main Disagreements

Iranian security officials expressed that the response from the Washington administration does not sufficiently meet Tehran's seven conditions regarding the opening of the Strait of Hormuz and the return to negotiations.

Washington's insistence on addressing the nuclear program in the initial stage stands out as one of the most fundamental points of disagreement in the negotiation process.

Strategic Importance of the Strait of Hormuz

The Tehran administration argues that negotiations should focus primarily on the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the establishment of security along the waterway.

According to pre-war data, the waterway in question carried approximately one-fifth of global oil and liquefied natural gas trade.

Yemen Crisis and Regional Dialogue

Iran reiterated that it is open to resolving the crisis regarding the escalating clashes between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis in Yemen through dialogue.

Stating that the Yemen issue should have been resolved much earlier within the framework of the United Nations roadmap, Tehran noted that it would support any agreement reached between Yemenis and Saudis.
