Thirty-year-old Australian climber Jordan Yap, who could not be reached during a challenging solo hike in Peru's Huayhuash mountain range, has been found dead following search operations.
The Hike and Loss of Communication
Jordan Yap, a 30-year-old experienced climber from Melbourne, had made his final contact with relatives before embarking on a planned ten-day solo trek in the Huayhuash mountain range northeast of Lima. Last seen at the start of the trail in the Cordillera Huayhuash circuit, the climber failed to communicate by his scheduled return date.
Search Operations and Tragic News
Failure to hear from him by the expected return date, his failure to check into a hostel in Huaraz, and missing a flight from Lima to Cusco had heightened concerns. In a social media post shared by his family and friends, it was announced that Jordan Yap could not be rescued alive and had passed away following search efforts.
Consular Support and Family's Message
A spokesperson for the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade confirmed that consular support is being provided to the family of the citizen who lost his life in Peru, while conveying condolences. Meanwhile, his relatives thanked the search teams, police, and volunteers who supported the process, requesting that the climber be remembered for his joyful personality.
