Multi-Million Euro Wine Heist at Prestigious Italian Cellar
Thousands of bottles worth 5 million euros were stolen from the cellar of historic wine producer Marchesi Antinori in Italy's Tuscany region.
Masked thieves in Italy have stolen 30,000 bottles of high-end wine, valued at approximately 5 million euros, from the cellar of the long-established wine producer Marchesi Antinori in Tuscany.
Details and Execution of the Theft
It was reported that at least seven masked individuals disabled alarm systems, turned off cameras, and used company forklifts to load two large trucks.
The robbery at the warehouse in the Tuscany region took place while the company's products were being prepared for shipment to overseas customers.
Value and Characteristics of the Stolen Wines
It was noted that the company' prized Tuscan red wine brands—Tignanello, Solaia, and Guado al Tasso—were targeted in the robbery.
The selection of bottles that normally sell for prices ranging between 150 and 500 euros each indicates that the thieves had specialized knowledge of the matter.
Statements from Company Management and Authorities
Marchesi Antinori Chief Executive Officer Renzo Cotarella stated that this incident is the largest wine theft of its kind in Italy.
He expressed hope that the stolen wines could be located by authorities, given that the roads in Tuscany are heavily monitored by cameras.
Current Status of the Investigation
The theft was discovered when employees arrived at the facility on Monday morning, and it was reported that no arrests have been made yet.
Information was shared that the long-established company, founded in 1385 and exporting to 170 countries, generated 263 million euros in revenue last year.
