New Research on Sugary Drink Consumption and Stomach Cancer Risk
The research covering the years 1986-2022 revealed that the risk of stomach cancer increased by 2.45 times in those who consumed at least 237 milliliters of sugary drinks per day.
Published in the journal Gastro Hep Advances and examining the data of 112,284 people between 1986 and 2022, comprehensive research investigated the link between sugary drink consumption and the risk of stomach cancer.
Scope and Findings of the Research
In the study conducted in the USA, covering the data of 112,284 people, the condition of individuals consuming at least one portion, or approximately 237 milliliters, of sugary drinks per day was examined.
According to the obtained data, it was determined that the risk of stomach cancer was 2.45 times higher in individuals who regularly consume these drinks compared to those who never consume them.
Cause-and-Effect Relationship and Mechanisms
Researchers specifically emphasized that the findings are observational in nature and do not definitively prove a direct cause-and-effect relationship.
It was stated that various physiological mechanisms such as weight gain, insulin resistance, and chronic inflammation may play a role in this increased risk during the process.
Detection of Arterial Plaque in Young Age Group
Another extensive research conducted on more than 16 thousand adults revealed health risks in the young population.
Examinations scientifically demonstrated that approximately 1 in every 13 people aged between 18 and 29 has arterial plaque.
Expert Warnings and Whole Grain Foods
Experts point out that atherosclerosis can progress silently, stating that regular blood pressure, lipid, and blood sugar monitoring is of vital importance.
Other analyses involving approximately 6,500 people showed that regular consumption of whole grain foods has positive effects on cholesterol, blood pressure, and blood sugar.
