Missing U.S. Citizens
The U.S. Department of State announced that approximately 80 American citizens are still unaccounted for following the disaster that occurred last week.
While it was previously stated that this number was at least 90, it has been confirmed that 13 American citizens reached Nepal safely.
Rising Death Toll
According to the latest statements made by local authorities, the number of people who lost their lives in the disaster area has reached 903.
The number of people reported missing has increased to approximately 4,200.
Cause of the Disaster
Authorities stated that the disaster was triggered by glacial activity on a remote hillside in north-central Nepal.
It was reported that the glacial collapse and landslide triggered a 5.2 magnitude earthquake, followed by a 4.2 magnitude tremor.
International Rescue Operations
A spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal announced that more than 10,000 people have been rescued so far, including more than 323 foreign nationals.
Coordination is being carried out with neighboring countries to deliver relief supplies from various nations to the region.

The U.S. Department of State announced that it has deployed a disaster response advisor to the region and will provide $500,000 in aid through Catholic Relief Services.
