Pumpkin named Bagheera breaks world record for Lymington grower

Sixty-five-year-old grower Ian Paton, living in the UK, broke a record to claim a Guinness World Record in his first solo competition after years of work with his twin brother.

Record Weight of the Giant Pumpkin

Ian Paton from Lymington entered his massive pumpkin, named Bagheera, into the giant vegetable weigh-in held near Reading in Berkshire.

Official measurements confirmed by Guinness World Records adjudicator Sebastian Suski showed the pumpkin weighed 2,856.8 pounds, or 1,295.8 kilograms.

Intensive Care and Labor Process

Grower Ian Paton stated that growing the pumpkin named Bagheera required a very challenging process and was cared for daily with great dedication.

It was stated that nearly six hours were spent on the pumpkin's daily care and it was given about 130 gallons of water a day.

Exhibition and Subsequent Use

The record-breaking giant pumpkin went on display for visitors over the next few weeks at Sunnyfields Farm near Southampton.

The farm also created a giant mural of Sir David Attenborough using over ten thousand pumpkins, and it was announced that the pumpkin would be fed to cows after the exhibition.
