Turkey, Pakistan, Egypt and Saudi Arabia Condemn Houthi Attack on Riyadh
Regional powers have held the Houthis responsible following attacks targeting the Riyadh international airport that caused casualties, demanding an immediate halt.
Turkey, Pakistan, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia strongly condemned the attacks carried out by the Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen against the Riyadh international airport in a joint statement.
Attacks on Riyadh Airport
According to information shared by Saudi authorities, one person lost his life and approximately twelve people were injured in the latest attack targeting the international airport in Riyadh. This incident occurred just one day after a previous attack that left over thirty people dead and numerous injured.
Joint Response of Regional Powers
Turkey, Pakistan, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia, referred to as R4, described the attacks as a dangerous escalation that cannot be justified under any pretext. The group held the Houthis fully responsible for the consequences of the attacks and demanded that these actions be halted immediately.
Defense Pact and Military Cooperation
In August, a joint defense pact was signed between Turkey, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia, stipulating that an attack on one of the parties would be considered an attack on all of them. The countries decided to implement their collective defense commitments in the face of Houthi attacks.
Support Provided by Turkey
Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated that Turkey is evaluating how it can assist Saudi Arabia but ruled out the possibility of troop deployment and participation in offensive operations. The Ankara administration is providing defense and technical support to Riyadh.
