Turkey rises 11 places at once in tourism index
In the report announced by the World Economic Forum, Turkey rose to 36th place with its performance since 2019.
Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy announced that Turkey has risen 11 places since 2019 to reach the 36th spot in the World Economic Forum's 2026 Travel & Tourism Development Index.
Rise in the Index Ranking
According to the results of the 2026 Travel & Tourism Development Index published by the World Economic Forum, Turkey achieved significant success. The country achieved a total leap of 11 places since 2019, settling in the 36th position.
Minister Ersoy's Evaluations
Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy stated in a post on his social media account that they manage the growth in the tourism sector with a people-oriented approach. Ersoy emphasized that the competitive power of Turkish tourism and its progress in the field of sustainability serve as an example to the world.
Sustainable Tourism Achievements
Turkey's sustainable tourism approach found a place as an exemplary practice in the report. The country managed to record the second highest development worldwide with an 8.3 percent point increase it recorded in the area of tourism's socioeconomic impact.
Index Data by Years
According to the WEF's up-to-date and comparable data series, while Turkey ranked 47th in 2019, it had risen to 37th place in 2024. Along with the 2026 data, the country climbed to the 36th spot, while its overall index score also increased by 6.1 percent.
Certification Process and Goals
More than 2,650 accommodation facilities have been certified within the scope of the National Sustainable Tourism Program, which Turkey implemented with the Global Sustainable Tourism Council in 2022. This system is planned to become mandatory for all facilities by 2030.
