Turkey's Rise in the Tourism Sector and Its Position in the WEF Report

Increasing its score in the global tourism index and achieving remarkable international success, Turkey has recorded a rise in World Economic Forum data.

According to World Economic Forum data, Turkey achieved a significant rise in its tourism rankings, successfully increasing its index score, and official statements were made regarding the matter.

Changes in Rankings and Index Scores

According to the World Economic Forum's comparable current dataset, Turkey ranked 37th in 2024 and improved its position over the last two years. The country's index score also showed an increase during the same period.

The score, which was 4.1206 in 2019, reached 4.3734 by 2026. This result points to a 6.1 percent increase over the seven-year period, while the rise in the 2024-2026 period was recorded as 2.5 percent.

Sustainable Tourism Program and Statements

Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy stated that Turkey's tourism policy focuses on growth targets as well as the protection of natural and cultural assets.

Ersoy stated that Turkey's Sustainable Tourism Program was shown as an exemplary country practice in the WEF report and emphasized that efforts will continue.

Socioeconomic Impact and Indicator Successes

Turkey demonstrated a remarkable performance in the indicator measuring the socioeconomic impact of tourism, successfully increasing its score by 8.3 percent.

With its success in this area, Turkey rose to become the second most improved country in the world and achieved progress in various sub-headings.

Certification Processes and Targets

The WEF report highlighted the National Sustainable Tourism Program, which Turkey implemented in 2022 in cooperation with the Global Sustainable Tourism Council.

Within the scope of the program, more than 2,650 accommodation facilities received certification, and the practice is targeted to be mandatory for all facilities by 2030.
