World Bank Group Mobilizes Private Capital Financing in Nigeria
The World Bank Group is mobilizing $5.79 billion in private financing in Nigeria through programs supporting SMEs, agriculture, and digital infrastructure.
In the 2026 fiscal year, the World Bank Group is unlocking up to $5.79 billion in private financing in Nigeria through programs supporting small businesses, agricultural value chains, and digital infrastructure.
Capital Support Provided to Small Businesses
The Promoting Inclusive Finance for SMEs in Nigeria program aims to increase access to finance for more than 250,000 micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises in labor-intensive sectors.
While 30 percent of the financing is directed to women-led businesses, the program is expected to mobilize approximately $1.89 billion in private financing.
Strengthening Agricultural Value Chains
The International Finance Corporation is supporting the increase of domestic fertilizer production and the improvement of input costs for farmers through financing provided to Dangote Industries Limited and Indorama Fertilizer.
These projects aim to strengthen food security by reducing dependence on imported inputs.
Digital Transformation and Infrastructure Investments
By acting as an anchor investor in the bond issuance carried out by IHS Towers, the International Finance Corporation contributed to mobilizing more than $1.1 billion in funds from private investors.
This step clearly demonstrates investor confidence in Nigeria's digital infrastructure sector and capital markets.
Comprehensive and Coordinated Approach
While policy reforms improve the enabling environment, investment projects and platforms create viable opportunities, allowing public resources to catalyze larger pools of private capital.
All these implemented reforms, platforms, and investments aim to make the Nigerian economy a more resilient and productive structure.
