An airstrike targeting World Food Programme trucks in Sudan's South Kordofan region resulted in the death of a driver, while a separate incident claimed the life of a child and injured numerous civilians.

Details of the Attack in South Kordofan

According to a statement by United Nations spokesperson Farhan Haq, two World Food Programme trucks were targeted in an airstrike on the evening of October 5 in South Kordofan.

During this attack on clearly marked vehicles, a truck driver lost his life, and the food supplies being transported were severely damaged.

Second Incident and Casualties

In a second incident that occurred in the same region, a child lost their life, while a total of twelve people, five boys and seven girls, were injured.

These tragic events have once again highlighted the immense security risks facing humanitarian aid operations in the region.

Growing Security Risks and WFP's Resolve

The attack occurred just one day after another WFP truck incident in the Dilling area, where a vehicle struck an explosive device after distributing food aid.

The relief organization emphasized that, despite all challenges and risks, it will continue to deliver life-saving support to communities in need.

Dimensions of the War in Sudan

The conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces, ongoing since April 2023, has caused millions of people to be displaced.

According to United Nations data, more than seven million people in the country are struggling with food insecurity, particularly in Darfur.

Diplomatic Initiatives and Talks

Following months of stalemate, the United States is attempting to revitalize diplomatic efforts to find a political solution to the crisis.

Massad Boulos, the Senior Advisor for Arab and African Affairs for the U.S., delivered a message of regional cooperation during his contacts in Egypt.

Egypt's Role and Regional Support

The Egyptian presidency stated that they will continue to exert efforts at both regional and international levels to bring an end to the political crisis.

During the meeting, steadfast support was reiterated for the preservation of Sudan's unity, sovereignty, and national institutions.
