Zelensky Says "Will Respond" If Russia Does Not Follow 'Energy Ceasefire'

Tensions escalated after Russian forces targeted critical infrastructure in Ukraine immediately following an energy ceasefire announced by US President Donald Trump between the parties. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that they would retaliate if Moscow fails to abide by the ceasefire rules.

Ceasefire Announcement and Aftermath

US President Donald Trump had announced in a unilateral statement over the weekend that an energy ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine had gone into immediate effect.

Attacks on Energy Facilities

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that following this announcement, Russia struck six Ukrainian energy facilities, targeting petrol stations and power grids in the attacks.

As a result of the attacks, power outages occurred in settlements such as Izium, while energy and railway infrastructure in the west of the country was also targeted throughout the night.

Casualties and Injuries

It was shared that a total of 33 people were injured in these attacks on energy facilities across the country. Additionally, a 25-story residential building in Kyiv's Darnytskyi district was hit by a drone, resulting in one death and 11 injuries.

Zelenskyy's Warnings and Reactions

Participating in the Warsaw Security Forum via video link, Zelenskyy explicitly stated that Ukraine would deliver the necessary response if Russia does not respect the energy ceasefire.

Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov made statements claiming that Ukraine does not deserve the pause that a ceasefire would bring.
