Y Combinator-backed meeting assistant Circleback has rolled out a new free subscription tier instead of limited-time trials to attract new customers in the face of a rising competitive environment.

High Competitive Environment

New players such as Wispr and Calendly, along with specialized competitors like Granola, Read AI, and Fireflies, operate in the meeting notes market. These intense competitive conditions are setting the stage for companies to reconsider their strategies.

Details of the Free Plan

The new subscription model offers users the ability to get an unlimited number of meeting transcripts, use mobile and Apple Watch apps, and query transcripts using artificial intelligence. Additionally, this plan includes Linear and Slack integrations, while past access is limited to the last 30 days.

Pricing and Marketing Strategy

Paid subscription plans, which include full API and MCP access, unlimited history, and all integrations, start at $14 per month for annual payments. While the company did not previously offer a free tier, its starting plan was priced at $20.83 per month.

Company Information and Goals

Founded in 2023 by Ali Haghani and Kevin Jacyna, the company operates profitably with an eight-person team and raised $2.5 million in funding in 2024. Co-founder Haghani stated that the new plan will be treated as a marketing investment rather than advertising expenses.
