Password manager 1Password has developed a new security tool that prevents AI agents from accessing actual credentials while performing tasks on behalf of the user. Called 1Password for Agents, this system allows agents to access accounts without seeing or storing user passwords.

The new platform establishes a secure communication bridge between the agent, the user, and the password manager. When an AI agent attempts to log in, a unique digital key is sent to 1Password to verify the agent's identity. Once the user approves the request via an incoming notification, 1Password automatically fills in the credentials to complete the login process.

The service supports various AI models, such as agents developed by Anthropic's Claude Duet, OpenAI's Dots and ChatGPT Work, Grok Bot, and Meta's Muse and Town. The company aims to make task delegation safer while helping users maintain control over their sensitive data through this method.
